Papa Roach To Dance In The Ashes Of Past Disappointments

It’s not unusual for a band to enter the studio feeling excited, but it is unusual when the source of that excitement is the disappointing sales of their last album. “Some bands get jaded and lose it, but we’re just excited about making music,” exclaimed singer Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach, whose Lovehatetragedy sold less than 20 percent of the copies of their previous album, Infest. “It’s kind of cool because we don’t have a record that’s really anticipated, which is cool for us, ’cause the pressure’s off.” Papa Roach’s attitude about the past year will be clearly reflected in… Read more »

The follow-up to 2002’s Lovehatetragedy is expected to be released in March of 2004 through Dreamworks Records. About working with Benson, frontman Jacoby Shaddix said that “(Howard) makes huge sounding rock records, and that’s what we’re going for…just big rock.” Papa Roach will headline a benefit concert in their hometown of Vacaville, California, Saturday (September 6), with all proceeds going to the Vacaville High School music program and Opportunity House. Other bands slated to appear include The… Read more »

Papa Roach, Neptunes Team Up For 'Biker Boyz' Soundtrack

Papa Roach spent some time in the studio with the Neptunes last week, recording a song for the soundtrack to “Biker Boyz,” starring Laurence Fishburne and Kid Rock. Jacoby Shaddix and company shacked up with producers du jour Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo in Los Angeles’ Record Plant, according to a DreamWorks Records spokesperson. The resulting track, tentatively titled “Don’t Look Back,” is slated for the “Biker Boyz” soundtrack, due January 28. The album’s other tracks had not been finalized at press time. “Biker Boyz” stars Fishburne as Manuel “Smoke” Galloway, leader of a black motorcycle club. Rock, following up… Read more »

Papa Roach To Headline Tour In January

Papa Roach will infest the U.S. in January on their third headlining tour in almost as many years. Jerry Horton, Dave Buckner, Tobin Esperance and Jacoby Shaddix will set out on a three-month tour, on January 13 in Vancouver, British Columbia, a DreamWorks spokesperson said. Only the first leg of the tour has been confirmed, though the band is expected to then travel up the East Coast, into Canada, and then across the Northern U.S. before wrapping up in Sacramento in mid-April. Swedish rockers Blindside will open, and a third slot may be filled by regional acts. Papa Roach’s last… Read more »

Papa Roach Showing New Attitude

Papa Roach’s Jacoby Shaddix is having trouble concentrating on the conversation. Interrupting the lead singer’s discussion about the in-your-face band’s latest album is the cry of a baby. “Can you hold on? I’ve got to get the baby a bottle,” he says. It’s the first sign there’s something afoot for the band that burst onto the musical scene in 2000 with the rap-rock triple platinum album “Infest,” which included the single “Last Resort.” First, there’s the name change from the irreverant Coby Dick to the more respectable Jacoby Shaddix. “Call me the artist formerly known as Coby Dick,” jokes the… Read more »

Ludacris Barks Back At Pepsi, O'Reilly; P-Roach Antics Not An Issue For Soda Giant

Does hip-hop speak to Pepsi’s “new generation”? Well, it depends on who you ask. Last week, Fox News Channel’s conservative ranter Bill O’Reilly denounced the soda giant for choosing Ludacris to appear in Pepsi ads, calling him a “thug rapper” who “espouses violence, intoxication, and degrading conduct toward women.” Just one day later, Pepsi announced that it was dropping Luda as its spokesperson and apologizing to anyone who was offended by its association with him. This move came despite Pepsi’s own research which had found that teens ranked the soda’s hip-hop spokesperson as popular as any celebrity associated with the… Read more »

Eminem Left Pleading for Applause – Review

The surprise wasn’t that Eminem ( news – web sites) has found someone new to take on – namely, Lynne Cheney and the many others who have derided the shock-rapper’s work. The surprise, instead, came near the end of his 70-minute show, which kicked off the Eminem-headlined Anger Management Tour on Thursday. That’s when a visibly discouraged Eminem was left pleading for more from the audience packing Buffalo’s HSBC Arena. “Buffalo!” Eminem yelled out as the set segued from “Drug Ballad” to “Come on Everybody,” with little energy flowing from the crowd. “Buffalo! Don’t die on me yet.” The audience… Read more »
