Jonas Brothers poised for superstardom

Most young men can be forgiven for not knowing what they’ll be doing two days from now, much less two years. Not the three siblings who comprise the hit trio the Jonas Brothers. The superstars-in-the-making have every day mapped out for the next 24 months. If you’re not a tween/teenage girl or don’t live in proximity to one, you may not yet be in on the phenomenon created by 20-year-old Kevin, 18-year-old Joe and 15-year-old Nick. They opened for Miley Cyrus on her fall “Hannah Montana” tour to the delight of shrieking girls everywhere. Their song, “S.O.S.,” catapulted to No.… Read more »

Heath Ledger, the Australian-born actor whose breakthrough role as a gay cowboy in the 2005 movie “Brokeback Mountain” earned him a nomination for an Academy Award and comparisons to the likes of Marlon Brando, was found dead Tuesday in an apartment in Manhattan with sleeping pills near his body, the police said. The police said Mr. Ledger, 28, was found naked on the floor near the bed in an apartment in SoHo that he had been renting. The chief police spokesman, Paul J. What if you built a machine to predict hit movies?

One sunny afternoon not long ago, Dick Copaken sat in a booth at Daniel, one of those hushed, exclusive restaurants on Manhattan’s Upper East Side where the waiters glide spectrally fro table to table. He was wearing a starched button-down shirt and a blue blazer. Every strand of his thinning hair was in place, and he spoke calmly and slowly, his large pink Charlie Brow head bobbing along evenly as he did. Copaken spent many years as a partner at the white-shoe Washington, D.C., firm Covington & Burling, and he has a lawyer’s gravitas. One of his bes friends calls… Read more »

Kid Rock Axe Disappears

A one-of-a-kind Gibson electric guitar, made especially for Lava/Atlantic recording artist Kid Rock, is missing and presumed stolen. The guitar, a new Gibson SG model custom-painted in a “stars and stripes” motif, was discovered missing by customs inspectors overseas, where Kid Rock arrived this week on his way to an undisclosed location to perform for U.S. servicemen and women as part of an MTV/USO holiday television special.            The guitar was last seen at Kid Rock’s Michigan studio, where it was packed in a large case with a number of other guitars and then transported to… Read more »

'NSYNC Have Big Heads; Necks Bending Precariously

Fame and success have finally gone to ‘NSYNC’s heads. Their noggins are so inflated that they can barely hold them up, as if their necks are only flimsy metal springs… oh wait, their necks really are flimsy metal springs. While the real Justin, JC, Lance, Chris and Joey are still perfectly proportional, their bobbleheaded doppelgangers, available from Best Buy outlets beginning November 24, depict the group with oversized melons to match their extra-large bank accounts. A different bobblehead doll – one for each member – will be available each week, starting with JC Chasez, according to a Best Buy spokesperson.… Read more »
