A photographer has caught pop star Britney Spears on film smoking a cigarette, after she’s been preaching for years that she was against the habit. The 20-year-old singer once told the News-Sentinel in Knoxville, Tenn., “I don’t believe in drugs or even smoking. I believe in God.” The New York Post is carrying the photo today showing the singer, dressed in short-shorts, apparently turning her back to the photographer. Four young men accused of burglarizing Britney Spears and her former sweetie, ‘N Sync crooner Justin Timberlake, are off the hook. A Florida judge sentenced Salvador Martinez, 19, Richard Olivarez, 20, Marcus Cook, 19, and Matthew Daily, 18, each to three years’ probation Thursday after they pleaded no contest to raiding the ex-couple’s rented vacation home in the Panhandle town of Destin, Florida, the Northwest Florida Daily News reports. You may never have washboard abs like Britney Spears, but soon you can fill your belly at her restaurant. The pop singer is opening an American bistro in midtown Manhattan called Nyla – for New York, Spears’ new home, and Louisiana, her home state. Nyla will occupy space in the Dylan Hotel that formerly housed Virot, an upscale French restaurant that closed shortly after Sept. 11. An upstate New York family is suing a radio station over a fake Britney Spears appearance. The family of Susan Santodonato is suing WMRV-FM of Endville, N.Y. and its parent companies for $1.2 billion. Santodonato died in June 2000, a day after she fell in the station’s parking lot. She had taken her then 11-year-old daughter to catch a glimpse of Spears at the station after an on-air personality advertised an appearance by the pop singer. One day after fans booed Britney Spears at the London premier of her film, her spokeswoman blamed the brief appearance on security concerns.
