Virgin Records has announced the signing of acclaimed punk-pop outfit the Starting Line via a worldwide deal. Burbank, CA – Multi-platinum, Grammy® Award-winning rock group Green Day will embark on a two-month North American tour, kicking off in Chicago on August 10th. Just as Green Day’s American Idiot has a theme running through it, so too do the band’s videos from the album – they all share the vision of director Samuel Bayer. After working with Bayer for “American Idiot,” “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and “Holiday,” the band hooked up with him again for “Wake Me When September Ends” after the guys returned from a sold-out Asian tour at the end of March. Doghouse Records recording artists, Celebrity, will be shooting a video for the song, “Disconnected,” in Los Angeles this weekend with director Darren Doane (Jimmy Eat World, Far, Thursday). The band kicks off the first of two summer tours on July 8th in Claremore, OK, with Noise Ratchet, Copeland and the Rocket Summer. On August 3rd, they will head back out on the road with Glasseater and Bayside. In addition, Celebrity will be touring with The Juliana Theory in September and October. Hoping to shine in one of the music industry’s few bright spots, Dreamworks Records on Wednesday announced a joint venture with newly-formed Melee Entertainment to release music DVDs that go beyond the typical concert video genre. With music video DVDs selling at a fast clip and in sharp contrast to the recording industry’s protracted decline in CD sales, Dreamworks and Melee hope in part to cash in on the trend while also developing a roster of creative talent. Songs by Nickelback, Puddle Of Mudd, Linkin Park, and Jimmy Eat World scored the most spins on the radio this past year, according to Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems (BDS), which monitors radio play. Nickelback’s most-played status with 421,770 spins of “How You Remind Me” earned the Canadian band Billboard Award honors in early December. Second place goes to Puddle Of Mudd’s “Blurry” with 411,487 spins, while Linkin Park’s “In The End” comes in at Number Three with a reported 393,409 spins.
