Fall Out Boy No Longer Forced To Sleep On Strangers' Floors

Just like in professional wrestling, a band’s entrance music provides a pretty good forecast of what’s to follow. When Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger” filled an arena, Hulk Hogan’s irrepressible fortitude wasn’t far behind. The sound of glass shattering typically prefaced a Stone Cold-style beat-down. And this past summer, when Joe Esposito’s “You’re the Best,” off “The Karate Kid” soundtrack, rained down upon an unsuspecting rock club, it meant that one of the most immodest bands around was about to deliver its musical equivalent of a jump-front kick to the head. “We thought it was the funniest thing,” explained Fall… Read more »

Good Charlotte Goes Dr. Rhythm, Ends Search For Drummer

After nearly three years, Good Charlotte has ended their search for a permanent drummer. After the departure of their original drummer, Aaron Escolopio (now playing in Wakefield), Good Charlotte have fielded two touring drummers (Dusty Brill and Chris Wilson), and a host of guest drummers from bands such as The Vandals, Vroom, Mest, and Autopilot Off. The search is finally over, and Good Charlotte has decided to take a DR-3 Dr. Rhythm drum machine with them on the 2003 Civic Tour with New Found Glory. “It’s a great little machine,” said Good Charlotte’s guitarist and songwriter, Benji Madden. “I’ve been… Read more »

MTV Movie Awards Maintain Comic Vibe

Irreverent and bordering on insolent, the MTV Movie Awards have built a following over the past decade by mocking Hollywood as much as celebrating it. Best Villain? Best Kiss? Best Fight? Lifetime achievement awards for Chewbacca from “Star Wars,” and for cameo character actor Clint Howard, the squinty-eyed little brother of director Ron Howard? Such are the honors bestowed at the MTV Movie Awards, which in its 11th year comes not to praise cinema but to parody it. This year’s ceremony takes place Saturday and will be broadcast Thursday (June 6). “We’re always looking to make people laugh. That’s more… Read more »

More Ramones, Less Bizkit In Quarashi's Icelandic Rap-Rock

For those who think rap-rock is just about tapped out, Quarashi would like to present their spin on the genre. “We’re trying to do rap music the way Joey Ramone would have done rap music,” said Sölvi Blondal, the band’s producer and drummer. “What we are trying to do is punk-rock rap music, but a little bit more 1990s, like when Public Enemy was doing Fear of a Black Planet and when Cypress [Hill] was coming up with their first album. We tried to approach that style…. We didn’t want to be like Limp Bizkit or these bands that are… Read more »

'N Sync's Fatone Looks to Acting

One of the members of ‘N Sync has a new career option if he ever gets tired of music – acting. Joey Fatone has a role in the new film “My Big, Fat Greek Wedding,” and he really enjoyed the experience. “Obviously ‘N Sync comes first,” Fatone said. But he wouldn’t mind one day having a lead role in a film. For now, though, he’s happy as a supporting player. “I’d love to do supporting roles,” he said. “They always seem to be a lot less stressful.” Fatone and fellow ‘N Sync members may or may not have a part… Read more »

Andrew W.K., George Lucas Visit Third Eye Blind In Studio

Third Eye Blind are making headway on their third album and eyeing a summer release, despite being interrupted in the studio by a few high-profile guests. In-your-face party starter Andrew W.K. showed up and added backing vocals to the song “F-ked up Kid,” while Kimya Dawson of lo-fi indie band the Moldy Peaches donated her voice to “Self Righteous.” The most famous visitor to stop by the San Francisco studio, however, did not collaborate. He does own the place, though. While at Skywalker Sound, Third Eye Blind presented “Star Wars” director George Lucas with a plaque commemorating the 6 million… Read more »
