Suicide Band Banned From Club

A week after announcing plans to host an on-stage suicide by a terminally ill euthanasia advocate, Florida industrial rockers Hell on Earth have lost their booking at a Ft. Lauderdale venue. David Hundley, owner of the State Theater in St. Petersburg, said on Wednesday that he would not host next Saturday’s show. Unclear whether the planned suicide was a publicity stunt or an “illusion,” Hundley said during a press conference that his concern for what effect the stunt might have on young fans forced his hand. “We deal with a lot of kids here and we don’t want their parents… Read more »

Deftones Yank Bootlegs From Website, Hoobastank From Tour

The Deftones were forced by their record label, Maverick Records, to remove 49 live bootleg recordings from their website. Singer Chino Moreno told MTV.com, “I think Maverick got mad because they own all that music…it was our idea to put it up there, but I think we were maybe supposed to ask permission or something.” The bootlegs, recorded at various shows in 1992, 1995, and 2000, were available for free downloading at the site, but abruptly disappeared about three weeks ago. Hoobastank have reportedly dropped off the list of support acts for the upcoming Deftones headlining tour, which begins October… Read more »

U2's Bono Has 'Row' With President Bush Over AIDS Money

Bono and President George W. Bush held a candid discussion on AIDS funding on Tuesday (September 16) which the U2 lead singer describes as a “Good ole row.” Back in May, Bush earmarked $3 billion worth of funding to fight AIDS on a global level. But since that time, Congress has only released $2 billion. Speaking at a press conference following their meeting, Bono said Bush is “very passionate about these problems and I believe him. I just can’t agree on the numbers.” Bono has long used his fame as a platform to speak out about AIDS, which has claimed… Read more »

Britney Spears is hooking up with Madonna once again – this time for the first single from her forthcoming album, now titled Get in the Zone. The duo, of course, most recently caused controversy when they locked lips at the MTV Video Music Awards. The single – co-written by Spears and produced by RedZone… Read more »

Disturbed Singer Blasts RIAA Lawsuits

Disturbed lead singer David Draiman thinks that the music industry should figure out how to distribute music on the Internet, instead of suing people who download songs. Draiman told the San Francisco Chronicle, “This is not rocket science-instead of spending all this money litigating against kids who are the people they’re trying to sell things to in the first place, they have to learn how to effectively use the Internet.” Draiman asserts that the actions taken by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) are protecting corporate profits, not artists: “For the artists, my ass…I didn’t ask them to protect… Read more »

Ataris Ponder Effects Of Endless 'Summer'

With a new single called “The Saddest Song” starting to pop up at radio stations, the Ataris are ready to move past the monster success of “The Boys Of Summer,” their accidental hit that was never supposed to be a single in the first place. Bassist Mike Davenport revealed that he doesn’t think the Ataris will end up a one-hit wonder. “I could see how that would be with some other bands, but I think with us, our fan base is so strong that they understand it, you know,” Davenport said. “But, you know, all the kids that are just… Read more »

For Nickelback, Success Rocks

It’s OK with Nickelback if you want to call them a pop group. In fact, pop doesn’t begin to describe the Canadian quartet’s third album, “The Long Road.” The Roadrunner set, arguably the most-anticipated global rock release of the year, is due Sept. 23 in North America and a day earlier in the rest of the world. “Somewhere along the line, people turned pop – as in ‘popular’ – into a dirty word,” says Chad Kroeger, leader of the hard-rocking band. “We want to reach the widest audience possible and let everyone know who we are. Korn, Tool and Slipknot… Read more »
