Nirvana bassist seeks county office

Nirvana’s former bassist is running for clerk of a rural county to protest Washington state’s method of letting candidates name their own party affiliation. Krist Novoselic is running for clerk of Wahkiakum County in western Washington. Novoselic is head of his local chapter of the Grange, a civic organization. His election paperwork declares that he is running under the “Grange Party” banner, even though the Grange is not a political party. Novoselic said that he is protesting the state’s system that lets candidates say what party they prefer when running for office. He says that is confusing for voters and… Read more »

Blink-182 bassist at work with Motion City Soundtrack for new album

Blink-182 has already written a number of new songs, but don’t expect the band to deliver a follow-up to its self-titled smash in 2003 before its big reunion tour this summer. “We started writing a few months ago and got well into the writing process, but now we’ve kind of put the recording of the next album on hold and are doing rehearsals for the upcoming tour,” said frontman Mark Hoppus. After a four-year hiatus, Hoppus, Travis Barker and Tom DeLonge appeared onstage at the 2009 Grammy Awards and announced their reformation as Blink-182. Hoppus also has been busy in… Read more »

Metallica to be two-bassist band at Hall of Fame

DETROIT –  It seems that Metallica will be a two-bassist band at Saturday’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cleveland. A day after former bassist Jason Newsted told Billboard.com that his replacement, Robert Trujillo would not take part in the performance part of the induction, a spokesman for the group’s Warner Bros. label clarified that “Jason and Robert will both be playing Metallica’s induction songs.” He did not indicate what the songs would be or if Newsted and Trujillo would be on stage together or separately. Metallica is flying in from Paris, where the group plays Wednesday… Read more »

Lance Bass Talks Marriage, Kids and Same-Sex Dancing

Lance Bass wouldn’t mind dancing with a man on a reality competition show, but he doesn’t think ABC’s Dancing With the Stars is the right place for fancy same-sex footwork. “I think it would be so silly that it would just overshadow everything else going on,” Bass tells me. “It would just be like making fun of something. But if it was another show with all guys dancing and all girls dancing, that’s a different story. I think that’s sexy.” He adds with a laugh, “I should pitch that.” I caught up with Bass just before his practice earlier today… Read more »

Former Blink-182 bassist sues over bad investment

Former Blink-182 bassist Mark Hoppus sued a father-and-son business Monday, alleging they pocketed his investment in a venture to install automated checkout machines at McDonald’s restaurants. The lawsuit in San Diego Superior Court says Ed and Jeff Mitchell lined their pockets “to the tune of over $1.5 million.” It alleges their company – Missicom LLC of San Diego – does not have any contracts to install the machines to take orders and collect payments at McDonald’s or anywhere else. Hoppus, currently a member of the pop-punk band Plus-44, invested $600,000 in Missicom in October 2003, according to the complaint. The… Read more »

Lance Bass: The Gay Divorcé

News that back in “like, ’99, 2000,” owing to “one of those crazy moments,” he tied the knot with a girlfriend after a wild night in Sin City. “People do stupid things in the heat of the moment. I’ve been in Vegas where I’ve gotten married for, like, five minutes,” he said. “No one talks about that though.” Bass, who announced his homosexuality to much fanfare last year, declined… Read more »

Lance Bass Joins `Hairspray' This August

Lance Bass will join the Broadway cast of “Hairspray” on Aug. 14. The former ‘N Sync boy band member will portray TV dance show host Corny Collins, a role modeled after legendary Baltimore disc jockey Buddy Deane, said Richard Kornberg, a spokesman for the show. The long-running musical, which opened Aug. 15, 2002, at the Neil Simon Theatre, is based on John Waters’ cult film set in 1960s Baltimore. It currently stars Shannon Durig as Tracy Turnblad, a pudgy dance-obsessed teen, and Paul C. Vogt as her equally full-figured mother, Edna. Also in the current cast is Jerry Mathers, best… Read more »

Lance Bass “tells all about his life, his music and his sexuality” in an upcoming autobiography, the publisher announced Wednesday. “Out of Sync” is scheduled for publication in October, said Simon Spotlight Entertainment, an imprint of Simon & Schuster. The publisher promises a behind-the-scenes look at the 27-year-old singer’s days in boy band ‘N Sync, as well as his headline-making venture to undergo astronaut training for a Russian space mission, which didn’t pan out because he couldn’t come up with the funds for the trip. Fall Out Boy Bassist Fights Security At Wild Gig

It’s often said by, you know, people like Hulk Hogan or Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell, that into every life, a little fisticuffs must fall. For Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz, that moment happened late Sunday night. And luckily for the rest of us, the whole thing was captured on a camera phone. As seen in a video now wildly making the rounds on the Net, Wentz and a member of Fall Out Boy’s security team took umbrage at the way one beefy security guard was treating a fan during the band’s sold-out gig at the Sunshine Theatre in Albuquerque,… Read more »

The Electras To Reunite, With Or Without Bassist John Kerry

Some bands reunite for the money, others for their egos. New Hampshire’s Electras, however, are doing it for the greater good of the country. Though their original bassist, Senator John Kerry, has become somewhat preoccupied with his solo project, the Electras have been supportive of his endeavors, and early next year, they plan to reunite the original lineup for a 45th anniversary gig in Washington, D.C. “We’re planning a mega event!” said founding guitarist Jon Prouty, who hopes several of the surf and garage-rock bands they grew up with will also play at the concert, tentatively scheduled for a to-be-determined… Read more »
