Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland dodged a bullet on Thursday when a judge sentenced him to three years of probation for his May drug arrest. Weiland appeared in a Pasadena, California, courtroom on two felony possession charges and was sentenced to probation, which includes court-monitored individual and group counseling sessions, mandatory Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and random drug testing, according to a spokesperson for the Pasadena district attorney’s office. Music from heavy metal cult band Slipknot has been associated with the murder of a 22-year-old man in California, according to the San Bernadino Police. Twenty-year old Jason Harris and his 16-year-old friend Amber Riley have been charged with stabbing and slashing the throat of Terry Ray Taylor in April. According to the San Bernadino County Sun, police and detectives say the two accused suspects were listening to Slipknot’s music before and after they killed Taylor. Rancid frontman Tim Armstrong is turning to Charles Manson for salvation, and he’s bringing Kelly Osbourne and members of Blink-182, Green Day and AFI along for the ride. When he finishes this year’s Vans Warped Tour, Armstrong will put the finishing touches on the upcoming stop-motion animated film “Live Freaky! Die Freaky!” in which Manson surfaces in a post-apocalyptic wasteland to guide a group of survivors who are desperately searching for a spiritual leader. Two of the biggest slasher-film icons of the ’80s are finally set to meet, as the nightmare pairing of “Freddy Vs. Jason” hits U.S. theaters Aug. 15. Destiny’s Child’s Kelly Rowland will star in the film, but the soundtrack to the flick, due Aug. 5 via Roadrunner, will be chock full of hard-edged rock. After months of auditions and wavering between top contenders, the group known simply as the Project – featuring ex-Guns N’ Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum – has finally decided upon a singer. Scott Weiland pleaded not guilty to charges of drug possession Monday (June 2), and offered to put himself in rehab before his next court date. The Stone Temple Pilots singer had been arrested last month in Burbank after police stopped him for a minor traffic violation and found what they believed to be drugs. He was charged with two felony counts of possession of heroin and cocaine. Jennifer Lynn Sires, a 29-year-old woman traveling with him whom he reportedly met in rehab, was also arrested on the same illegal substance possession charges. Her arraignment is on Tuesday.
