Universal Music Enterprises (UME) and Disc Marketing, Inc. have entered into a multi-year agreement to create compelling music “premiums” for many of the world’s major consumer brands, it was announced today by Bruce Resnikoff, President, Universal Music Enterprises. Under this agreement, UME, through its Special Markets division, will become the principal supplier of music content for music premiums developed by Disc Marketing for its wide range of corporate clients. UME will also provide manufacturing services for Disc Marketing. Ringo Starr has signed a new recording contract and is reportedly at work on a new album. He hopes to release the project next year, to coincide with his next All-Starr Band tour. The former Beatles drummer has signed on with Koch Entertainment, the company that released his live boxed set The Anthology…So Far in 2001. Mark Hudson, who worked on Starr’s last three studio albums and was also part of the Boneyard Boys production team on Aerosmith’s latest album Just Push Play, is producing the new album. Anyone even remotely familiar with Blink-182 knows they’re one of the most animated bands in rock, and soon their funny fodder will be drawn from a place where groups such as Aerosmith, the Who, Spinal Tap and the Red Hot Chili Peppers have once touched down: Springfield. Warner Music Group (WMG) announced today that it has acquired, from edel music AG, a 50% interest in music publisher Deston Songs LLC. Deston Songs, founded in 2000 by world-renowned songwriter/producer Desmond Child and music industry veterans Winston Simone and David Simone, has quickly established itself as one of the industry’s leading independent music publishers. Under the agreement, WMG’s Warner/Chappell Music Inc. will acquire 50% of Deston with the remaining 50% continuing to be held by Deston’s founders.
