Ashlee Simpson, Pete Wentz Welcome Baby Boy

Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson welcomed a son, Bronx Mowgli Wentz, into the world late Thursday night. Little Bronx weighed in at 7 pounds, 11 ounces, according to a statement from the couple’s publicist. “Ashlee, Pete and baby Bronx are all healthy and happy,” the statement read, “and thank everyone for their well wishes!” He’s the first child for both … and his birth was, shall we say, rather anticipated. Several reports had Simpson going into labor last weekend, and though that information proved to be incorrect, Simpson was so close to delivering that Wentz opted to stay with her… Read more »

Florida Teen Gets Time for Gangster Grandma Video

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A Florida teenager has been sentenced to 18 months in juvenile detention for coaxing his senile grandmother into holding a gun and threatening to shoot “all the pigs” in a homemade “gangster rap” video. Eighteen-year-old Michael Alfinez pleaded guilty Tuesday to elder abuse charges. His family has said the case was a misunderstanding. The 85-year-old grandmother can be seen in the video holding a handgun, wearing a black mask and threatening to shoot “all the pigs.” Alfinez was arrested in April after authorities seized the tape during a routine traffic stop. Alfinez and others also… Read more »

Prosecutors: No criminal conduct in Levert death

Prosecutors determined Tuesday that there was no criminal conduct involved in the March death of R&B singer Sean Levert, who was in jail when he became ill. Levert, a member of the 1980s R&B trio LeVert and son of lead O’Jays singer Eddie Levert, died March 30 after he was taken from the Cuyahoga County jail to a hospital. Prosecutor Bill Mason ruled out criminal conduct after his office reviewed an internal investigation conducted by the sheriff’s department. The coroner previously ruled that the 39-year-old Levert died from complications of sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease. Levert’s widow, Angela Lowe, filed… Read more »

The road is near the exclusive gated neighborhood that Britney Spears and other celebrities, including Ed McMahon, call home. Ravalha’s car was also impounded, Harding said. The pair were released, she said. They had been warned once about leaving the road but were still… Read more »

NY judge: Film can use John Lennon song

Yoko Ono lost her legal bid Monday to stop the playing of a 15-second excerpt of John Lennon’s song “Imagine” in a film challenging the theory of evolution. Lennon’s widow had sued the makers of “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed,” saying they used the ex-Beatle’s anthem without her permission. Ono, who had sought a preliminary injunction before the movie gets a wider release, said she would appeal. The other plaintiffs were Lennon’s sons, Sean and Julian. U.S. District Judge Sidney Stein ruled that if the case went to court, the filmmakers would probably win under the fair use doctrine. “That doctrine… Read more »

Portishead back after 10-year hiatus with 'Third'

As Portishead finished its meticulously sparse evening performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the typically reticent Beth Gibbons suddenly leapt off the stage and ran a 100-yard dash along the fenced-in crowd, exuberantly shaking their hands. Percussionist Geoff Barrow and guitarist Adrian Utley soon exited more quietly. Barrow, though, paused in front of a microphone to say, simply, “Thanks for waiting.” After a ten-year hiatus, Portishead is back. This is not a reunion bow, though, but rather an energized reboot of a band that ten years ago found itself burnt out from a rock ‘n’ roll life… Read more »
