The Academy Is… brought us Almost Here a whopping two decades ago. Now, the band is bringing us a new record, Almost There, on March 27, via I Surrender Records. This marks their first full record release since 2008’s Fast Times At Barrington High. And to kick off their new chapter, the group just revealed the LP’s lead single, “2005.”
“Almost Here was the beginning. Almost There is the reflection. It’s about being alive in this moment, checking in with who you thought you’d be, seeing what changed, what stuck, and what still feels like home,” the group says.
In “2005,” the Chicago-based alt-rockers showcase summery indie sonics that will transport you right back to the venues you danced with them in 20 years ago. William Beckett and crew are offering fans, young and young at heart, an exciting new era, and we can’t wait to see what’s next. Plus, you can even catch TAI reference Saves The Day with the lyric, “I remember driving downtown/Listening to Stay What You Are/And I know its complicated/You don’t have to say it.”
