It’s always a bittersweet moment to know you’ve watched your favorite band perform their last show. Everyone deserves a break, and performing is no easy task, but there’s something so special in the air when a band like Sum 41 takes to the stage. Notably, the iconic pop-punk band took their final bow on their international tour. They concluded their whirlwind route in Toronto at Scotiabank Arena on January 30. The band played 29 tracks, a mix of old hits and new favorites.

Of course, the quintet had to document their sold-out final show. They Tweeted a video sharing their final performance feelings. They captioned it: “It still hasn’t set in that this was the final show. What an emotional night. Thank you Toronto for finishing 30 years of Sum 41 with us over 2 sold out nights at
@ScotiabankArena.”

Guitarist Dave Baksh said, “Today could be something really, really sad, but we’re surrounded by people that…you just their faces and remember the things you’ve done with them.”

Ahead of the final tour date, lead vocalist Deryck Whibley shared a long, heartfelt message with fans. He shared, “He says, “Tonight we say goodbye. What a life, what a ride, what a wild time. From being a high school band that actually made it, to taking on the world and achieving everything I ever dreamed of. It’s been heaven, hell, and everything in-between but I wouldn’t change a minute of it.”

He added, “The highs in my life have been so great, that it’s almost felt undeserving at times. And the lows, well, most of them have been well documented. But I’ve learned a few things on this journey so far. The highs just don’t feel as good without the lows. And without getting through the lows, I wouldn’t be the person I feel proud to be today. The hard times are what make life interesting.”

Whibely noted, “If we just went through life never fighting battles, we’d never grow, learn or get stronger. I have so much excitement for change and growth and can’t wait to see where life goes next. At this point in my life, I only worry about what’s in my control and just let life happen as it’s supposed to.”

He concluded, “I have no idea what’s in store for me in the next chapter, and I’m honestly not thinking about it yet. All know is I couldn’t be happier with the way this story has played out for far.”

Though, the band technically still has one more performance on the docket, so don’t get out those tissues just yet. Sum 41 is scheduled to perform at the 2025 JUNO Awards, which is set to air on CBC.
