Canadian singers Sarah McLachlan and Avril Lavigne will share a stage for the first time when women’s cable network Oxygen presents “Sarah McLachlan Custom Concert featuring Avril Lavigne.”
The show, to take place Nov. 4 in New York, will be broadcast Nov. 9 by Oxygen at 9 p.m. ET.
McLachlan will perform songs from her forthcoming Arista album “Afterglow” (due Nov. 4), but the artist will allow Oxygen viewers to choose other portions of the night’s set list. Fans who visit Oxygen’s Web site (http://www.oxygen.com) through Nov. 2 will have the opportunity to vote on which of McLachlan’s hit songs – including “Building a Mystery,” “Into the Fire,” “I Will Remember You,” “Sweet Surrender” and “Possession” – she will perform.
Lavigne will perform a cover song – Metallica’s “Fuel,” Green Day’s “Basketcase,” Bob Dylan’s “Knocking on Heaven’s Door” or the Police’s “King of Pain” – also chosen by fans/viewers.
Visitor’s to Oxygen’s Web site can also submit questions for McLachlan or Lavigne, a selection of which will be put to the musicians during the concert. About 350 free tickets to the show will be distributed through businesses in New York such as top-40 radio station WPLJ (95.5 FM), Macy’s and Time Warner Cable.
