Hot off her performance at Mayhem Festival this weekend, Poppy has released not one but two new singles from her forthcoming album, negative spaces. Just like the other singles of the album, “crystalized” and “the cost of giving up” are also produced by former Bring Me The Horizon percussionist Jordan Fish. House Of Protection’s Stephen Harrison is credited as the production assistant, with both having writing credits on the songs along with Poppy herself.

The upcoming album promises to be a diverse outing with a wide range of genres being explored. A press statement teases what we can expect, “delicately-delivered pop (‘Yesterday’), full bodied screams (‘Have You Had A Enough’), synth-symbiotic ‘80s retro-futurism (‘crystallized’) and energy-jolted ‘00s pop-punk (‘Negative Spaces’).”

Now we have a taste of what has been hinted at with “crystalized” definitely delivering on that ‘80s synth-pop aesthetic. On the other hand, “the cost of giving up” is an anthemic banger. Maybe this one is a new category not mentioned that the album has to offer because this single is a straight-up metalcore anthem.

Poppy has collaborated with some of the biggest names in heavy music this year: Bad Omens, Knocked Loose, and Spiritbox. Somehow it feels like we’re only seeing the tip of the iceberg when it comes to her potential. The Poppy takeover is upon us, and this upcoming album is the spark that will light the fuse.

You can listen to “crystallized” and “the cost of giving up” below.

negative spaces is due out November 15 via Sumerian Records. You can pre-order the album here. Rounding out her massive year, you can see Poppy perform at Knotfest Brazil and Knotfest Chile. Tickets for both performances can be purchased here.

Tour Dates:

  • Nov. 2—Ñuñoa, Chile @ Knotfest Chile 2024
