More details are emerging surrounding the arrest of Phish bassist Mike Gordon on charges of child endangerment. While Gordon was a guest at the Dead’s August 11 concert in Long Island, he disappeared with the daughter of a Hells Angels member.
A search for the girl began after the mother of the child became concerned. The New York Post reports members of the Hells Angels found Gordon and the girl in a boathouse near the concert stage. The newspaper goes on to say that the Hells Angels “beat Gordon up and held him until police arrived.”
In a statement to the Post, Andy Hurwitz of Ropeadope Records, who are releasing Gordon’s solo album on August 26, said, “If you knew Mike at all, you’d know he doesn’t live on planet Earth. He’s been making movies since he was a kid, and he’s always taking photographs. He’s an artist. The whole thing is a misunderstanding.”
Gordon reportedly apologized to the girl’s parents, and both parties are now looking to put the matter behind them.
The bassist is ordered to appear at the First District Court in Hempstead, Long Island, on September 29.
