Fall Out Boy‘s Patrick Stump might be the well-known face of pop-punk and scene music, but in his heart, he is an OG ska fan. So much so, that the singer was recently interviewed for the upcoming second expanded edition of In Defense Of Ska by author and journalist Aaron Carnes. The book is set to arrive on October 29 via Clash Books.

The book’s second edition boasts “an additional 30,000 words of compelling stories, research, and analysis” of ska legends such as Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Operation Ivy, the Slackers, Hepcat, Mephiskapheles, and Reel Big Fish.

In addition to his work as a writer, Carnes also hosts the In Defense Of Ska Podcast, which featured Stump on October 23. In it, Stump dives into his favorite local ska bands from the ’90s as well as Fall Out Boy‘s most ska-infused tracks, which include “Fame < Infamy” and “Where Is Your Boy.”

In the interview, Stump says, “I used to try, pretty heavy-handedly, to sneak in ska rhytms on just about everything and they would always get shut down. I kinda managed to get that in [‘Fame < Infamy’].”

When it comes to his bandmates knowing about his love for ska, Stump laughs, sharing, “They would tease me about it, from the get-go.”
