On January 30, many streaming services streamed a very special FireAid LA Benefit Concert with a star-studded lineup to raise money to rebuild communities devastated by the wildfires.
Broadcast from both the Kia Forum and the Intuit Dome, performers included the likes of Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish all the way to Green Day, No Doubt, and a surprise Nirvana tribute. Surviving members Krist Novoselic, Pat Smear, and Dave Grohl were all in attendance. This also marks Grohl’s first performance since he shared in September that he is the father of a new child outside of his marriage.
The Nirvana set included an array of guest vocalists including St. Vincent on “Breed,” Joan Jett on “Territorial Pissings,” Sonic Youth‘s Kim Gordon on “School” and Violet Grohl (Dave Grohl’s 18-year-old daughter) on “All Apologies.”
Each musician brought their own unique edge to the tracks, honoring the late and great Kurt Cobain. Myriad social media users have taken to TikTok, Twitter, etc. to share their praise for Violet’s poised and powerful rendition.
You can catch the Nirvana performance at 3:43:05 and check out the full concert stream below.
This was not the only major surprise of the night. Billie Eilish hopped on the Kia Forum stage with Green Day to perform “Last Night On Earth.” Check out the collab below.
