On January 22, Bowling For Soup shared a bittersweet message on social media platforms. Guitarist extraordinaire Chris Burney, 55, is permanently retiring from the band. The artist originally helped co-found the band in the ’90s.
The punk-rock ensemble stated, “It is with a heavy heart we announce that Chris Burney has made the decision to retire from his stage-right post in the band he co-founded in 1994. Some recent medical developments, 30 years of rocking balls, and touring non-stop have made it difficult to continue. We are bummed to not have Chris by our sides, but absolutely support his decision.”
The band added, “The future of Bowling For Soup remains bright. The three of us will carry on, with Chris’ blessing, and continue to build the legacy of this band we all love so much.”
Finally, Bowling For Soup shared, “We will not be replacing Chris or touring with a touring guitarist. You cannot replace a legend. We were brothers when we started this journey…and brothers we remain.
See you at the shows and in your ears.”
Fellow acts shared their admiration and well-wishes with the group. CLIFFDIVER shared, “love u chris, miss you already.” LA’s The Dollyrots said, “Forever Chris Burney! We adore you.”
Beginning in February, Bowling For Soup will be touring throughout the UK with support from Magnolia Park and Wheatus. Then, in the summer, you can catch them back in North America at Welcome To Rockville and Phase Fest. Check out their upcoming dates here and grab tickets here.
