BR549’s new album, “This Is BR549,” is off to a good start, with the first single, “Too Lazy to Work, Too Nervous to Steal,” getting some early airplay.
“We passed the Texas litmus test,” singer-guitarist Chuck Mead told The Associated Press. “KIKK (radio) has added the single down in Houston. Texas is pretty country.”
The 40-year-old Mead, who wrote the single, said the band’s songwriting has been overshadowed by its vast repertoire of country music classics.
“When you have a five-hour shift to cover, unless you’re Bob Dylan, you can’t cover that with original songs,” he said. “People would come up to you and give you $5 to play a song. That’s how we were making our living.”
