Bowling For Soup Talks Bon Jovi And 'Punk Rock 101'

Texas-based punk rockers Bowling For Soup’s latest single to be released to radio is “Punk Rock 101.” The track is one of three that the band went back into the studio to record earlier this year with producer Butch Walker. In addition to “Punk Rock 101,” the band recorded “Smile,” and a cover of the ’80s A Flock of Seagulls hit “I Ran.” The band said that it is planning to re-release their album, Drunk Enough To Dance, with the new tracks included on it.

Vocalist Jaret Von Erich and Christopher Van Malmsteen explained that in addition to making fun of themselves in “Punk Rock 101,” the band gives a shout out to New Jersey rockers Bon Jovi.

“We actually have written a song that makes fun of what we wear, makes fun of how we sound,” Von Erich said.

“Makes fun of your hair,” Van Malmsteen added.

“Makes fun of my hair,” Von Erich interjected.

Van Malmsteed quipped, “Which is a very easy target these days.”

Von Erich continued, “Does not poke fun at Bon Jovi, yet mentions them in a very, very desirable way because we’re fans, and quite frankly I think if we were not gonna win the Grammy, I think Bon Jovi should have took it.”

Bowling For Soup will kick off their run on this year’s Vans Warped Tour at the Idaho Center Amphitheater in Boise on June 19.
