Ahead of their massive summer and fall tour schedule kicking off in less than two weeks, Badflower has dropped their contemplative and nostalgia-inducing “Detroit.” Featuring flashbacks from old photoshoots, old shows, and life on the road, the track is anchored by the line “I wanna feel the way I did when we started/It’s so depressing having everything I wanted.”

“I think anyone who has achieved something that they always thought they wanted has felt the disappointment in finally reaching that goal. It’s like, ‘I have it, now what do I do?,’” frontman Josh Katz contemplates. “And then you realize how fun it was chasing the thing you wanted—it was the journey that meant everything.

He continues, “Fans are so involved in those feelings. That’s the thing I was chasing for so long, to be loved by a lot of people. And for those people to be involved in this song—it’s just another layer of Badflower being honest with you.”

While the video features flashbacks from across the group’s career, the video cuts to a fan moment in Detroit, MI, captured in 2022, not long after touring resumed in the industry. In the break, Katz explains on stage, “We’ve been writing in the back of our bus. We set up a little studio. And there’s a song that we wrote yesterday that requires like a crowd vocal.” As Katz pauses and the audience screams, he adds, “Are you willing to sing something and not try to collect royalties?”

At its heart, “Detroit” is a love letter to Badflower fans while recapturing the magic of when the group started. Check out the official music video below.

Badflower will be kicking off a massive season of touring on August 6 in Australia. Check out their full touring schedule below and purchase tickets here.
