New music from Austin bands is now only a point and click away. With the online release of albums by Knife in the Water, Milton Mapes and The Gourds, Aspyr Media and Apple’s(R) iTunes(R) Music Store offer music fans an easy and legal way to obtain tracks from Austin artists.
Three albums from Knife in the Water, two from Milton Mapes and a soundtrack by Austin-favorite The Gourds are now available online for download. In addition Aspyr plans to use iTunes as a distribution channel for special recordings, including previously unreleased tracks and live performances.
Knife in the Water produces a sound that blends psych-country and narcotic balladry. Their three releases, “Cut the Cord,” “Red River,” included on Spin Magazine’s Top 20 Albums of 2000, and “Plays One Sound and Others,” have generated critical acclaim and a diverse fan base.
Milton Mapes combines American roots music and classic rock and roll with their latest release, “Westernaire.” Their debut album, “The State Line,” was named one of the Top 10 Albums of 2001 by the Austin Chronicle.
The Gourds, a band popular for their unusual style and deviation from mainstream pop music, have created 12 new tracks on their soundtrack to the eccentric documentary “Growin’ A Beard.”
