While She Sleeps has released their ferocious new single, “DOWN,” featuring a vocal collaboration with Malevolence‘s Alex Taylor. This new track follows the group’s earlier release, “SELF HELL,” the title track from their upcoming album set to arrive on March 29, 2024 independently.
Opening through a jolting alarm, the track erupts into an electrifying spectacle, unleashing a powerful surge of synths, colossal guitar work, and the fierce vocal mastery of Loz Taylor. Verse by verse, While She Sleeps tears through an intense array of instrumentation, propelled forward by the dynamic synergy between Loz and guest vocalist Alex.
The release of “DOWN” also features an accompanying music video. The video opens with a message that reads, “The new album by While She Sleeps was funded entirely by the fans without the financial support of a record label. Each pre-order will contribute 100% towards the survival of the band.”

The message continues, “This video was made from 1175 photos, 15 litres of paint, 7 cans of spray paint, 1 box of fireworks, 2 fire extinguishers, 5 imaginations, 7 days and 0 health & safety guidelines. Directed by the band.”
Of the new track, the group shares, “‘Down‘ has been a central pillar in the new album throughout the writing process of ‘Self Hell.’ Loz was completely on fire, and it gave a reminiscent early Sleeps style to the track. The working title for this song was ‘Film-Riffs’ simply because it sounded like it could be in an action movie. And it will. That’s exactly what it is. A high-intensity new sound that you can’t not bang your head to.”
They continue, “The song is about our deepest desire to feel free from the grips of our own compulsions: trauma, past, society, and everything in between. While we all face this journey in life there are always obstacles that hinder our progress on the path. More often than not, these manifest in the form of people who simply get in the way of your freedom and bring you down.”
