Tyson Ritter is an incredibly busy man. The All-American Rejects recently announced a new headline tour taking place throughout the Summer. He released a new album, Creatrix, with his new band Now More Than Ever back in March. And now, he has returned back to his previously revealed solo project Sharpton Mann. Oh, and he has also released a new song under his own name as well. So, yeah, as we said. Very VERY busy.
First up, let’s talk about Sharpton Mann. The project initially launched back in 2020 with two glistening tracks, “Pine Box” and “Broken Glass Slippers“. Then in 2022, a track called “There’s A Place” arrived in the form of a demo. But now, we are right back at it again in for form of “Shotgun Clown”. A soft and sultry piece of harmonious indie rock, the song also features the legendary Eels who add their own atmosphere to proceedings. It’s a magnificent piece of tender storytelling, the sort that Tyson is so incredible at. The track is set to appear in the new film Prisoner’s Daughter, which will be released on June 30 in select theatres and on Prime Video on July 04.

He had this to say about the song over on Instagram:
“Shotgun Clown were these two words that came into my head just after I had been cast for the film Prisoner’s Daughter, written by @mark_bacci. That first read of the script for me was powerful and I remember almost immediately hearing the melody as I sat down at my Wurlitzer. The story of this tortured soul, this beaten hero, really resonated within me and fell out across the keys. When the song was written I sent it to @catherinehardwicke, the director of the film, and she seemed to respond to it, eventually placing it as the songs end title. Grateful for the song finding a home in the place it was inspired by.
One of my only true influences as a songwriter that wasn’t 1950s golden oldies, was a college radio band that I found in high school called Eels. They were the kind of band that you pick up in the sole of your shoe and carry with you for the rest of the walk on this mortal plane. When I was first signed to DreamWorks Records In 2002, Eels were on that same label. The band has seemed to not only walk the same roads as me, but always been a mile or so ahead.
When I penned Shotgun Clown, I got the number for the singer of Eels, Mark, and I cold called him out of the blue and mustered the courage to ask him to join me on the song. Not sure what coaxed him to do it, but he did, and the rest is etched on the eternal wax. I never really stop and express gratitude for whatever forces got me to a place where I can do what I do for a living, but this pinch me moment will forever be a reminder of how fortunate I am to walk with some shine on me.”

And then there is another track released under Tyson’s name. That is “Easy Come, Easy Go”, a more much vibrant and visceral piece of pop-rock. More reminiscent of the style we may expect from Tyson in his other projects, it rips and tears at the soul with gleeful abandon. It also features Scott Chesak, who also plays in Now More Than Ever.
The All-American Rejects will be hitting the road this Summer alongside New Found Glory, The Starting Line, Motion City Soundtrack and The Get Up Kids . Here are all the dates that you need to know:
