The Japanese House Share New Heartbreaker “One for sorrow, two for Joni Jones”

The Japanese House are edging closer and closer to the release of their new album In The End It Always Does. It’s set to be an intimate and intense display of carefully crafted musicianship, to say the least. And the tracks that they have shared up until now have been incredible. There’s been the soft “Sunshine Baby“, which featured The 1975’s Matty Healy. There’s also the sun-stained “Sad To Breathe” and emotionally complexBoyhood” as well. But now, there is “One for sorrow, two for Joni Jones”, which is possibly the most heartwrenching piece yet.

The final track on the album, it is named after Amber Bain’s, the brainchild behind The Japanese House, dog. And such a close relationship is painted gorgeously via soft piano flutters and stunning strings. It was written with MUNA’s Katie Gavin and co-produced alongside Chloe Kraemer, by the way. And the influence of both can be heard peaking through the cracks of this stunning admittance of things in your life-changing.

Amber had this to say about it:

“This is my favorite song, and I wrote it as a piece ages ago when I was playing the piano and [producer] Chloe would record me playing the piano loads with my dog on my lap. We sat on the music for ages then Katie from MUNA came down to the studio and put the rambling lyrics over music in a Joni Mitchell kind of way.

I’m trying to encapsulate that feeling, a sort of ode to that feeling when Emma Thompson stands there and cries when she’s holding the CD in Love Actually. The lyrics are about the confirmation that my relationship was dead, and it’s the only song I’ve ever cried during the vocal take, which has never happened before.”
