Spiritbox are kicking off a new era musically as well as a new chapter in their incredible story at the same time. First off, the band have welcomed Josh Gilbert, formally known for his work with As I Lay Dying, as a full-time member. Secondly, they have shared a new song, one that they have been playing on their Eternal Blue headline tour recently.
That song is “The Void”, a track that sits on the more ethereal and melodic side of the band’s side. Dense, decadent and delicious technical, it’s a gorgeous creation that flits between ethereal and intense like it’s second nature. From the impressive guitarwork of Micheal Stringer to Courtney LaPlante’s crystalline vocals, it’s yet another notch in the belt of a band that keeps on going from strength to strength.
Courtney had this to say about it:
“The Void is a song that came about very quickly. I didn’t have to fight with anything to write it, and when that happens, I don’t argue with it. It’s a type of song that I’ve been wanting to write for a long time, I’ve heard it hundreds of times now, and it makes me so happy every time I hear it. It’s been such an amazing experience playing this song on our tour, and watching people hear it for the first time, in real time.“
It’s the first new music from the band since last year’s EP Rotoscope, which saw Spiritbox experimenting with different brands of heaviness.
Courtney recently spoke all about what to expect from the band this year, which has clearly culminated in the release of this track.
“I’m really excited, but it is gonna be really hard. We love to sabotage ourselves. So we’re like, Hey, let’s throw in writing new music, too — and hopefully, we’ll get some new music out in the first half of the year. After that, we’re gonna hibernate and hopefully write an album. That’s the goal. Crazy first half of the year, pretty chill second half.”
“If everything aligns and we feel really strongly that everything hits exactly how we want — the art and the music and the whole thing around it — we’ll want to put this out as soon as possible.”
“The Void” is the first new music from the band since the release of their EP Rotoscope last year.
