Plain White T’s Get Real Cute With It On “You Plus Me”

Plain White T’s have shared another really lovely song in the form of “You Plus Me”. The band are very much in their self-titled era right now, with their new record set to sum up everything that they are about. So far, we have had “Spaghetti Tattoo”, “Would You Even”, “Happy” and “Red Flags”. Four songs that showcase all of the different feelings that are conjured when you fall head over heels for someone. Lust, love, loss and learning, everything is here for all to see. From the first look to the last goodbye, Plain White T’s have done an incredible job of summarising it. And with “You Plus Me”, they are firmly on the side of when things are getting really cute between you and someone else.

Though many know the band because of their smash hit “Hey There Delilah”, the band have been dealing out acoustic ballads for as long as we can remember. That trend is continuing here, though presented in more of an intimate setting. Like sitting down with your crush and pulling out your guitar to sing all the words that you don’t know how to say. The song feels timeless in that sense, using plenty of math puns to paint the picture of how this thing should be just as eternal. It rolls back the years as well as serves as a future wedding song at the same time.

Vocalist Tom Higgenson had this to say about the song and what it means to him:

“‘You Plus Me’ is a song about finding that person who is just as weird and nerdy as I am. It’s our flaws and our uniqueness that brings us together. There’s kind of an ‘us against the world’ mentality in this song, and I love that! We purposely left the recording very raw and stripped down to let that spontaneity and misfit charm shine through.”

Plain White T’s will be releasing their self-titled album on November 17 via Fearless Records. Tom summed up their intentions perfectly by saying:

“We were trying to hark back to sounds we’ve used in the past with a freshness. This one came from a really authentic place of understanding who we are and what we do. I’m more excited than I’ve been in a long time. As musicians, we’re always trying to outdo ourselves or go somewhere we haven’t gone before. Somehow, we figured out how to go to a fresh spot and still sound like Plain White T’s.”
