Maggie Lindemann is beginning 2024 with a bang on her new track and accompanying “hostage” music video. Preceded by 2022’s debut LP SUCKERPUNCH and one-off 2023 single “deprecating” with Siiickbrain, a new era is emerging featuring the Dallas singer’s dark and twisted lyrics and imagery.

Reminiscent of Flyleaf and Evanescene instrumental tones, Lindemann breathily and mournfully sings, “These thoughts fill my mind/Bring me down one more time/In my head and it drives me crazy/I’m hostage, baby.”

Lindemann shares, “‘hostage,’ for me, is like peering through a window into my own mind. It’s about being caught in this strange limbo where everything around me, externally, is going well, but inside, there’s a relentless storm.”

She continues, “The song is a cry for that person who can calm the turmoil inside me, a plea for solace amidst my own mental chaos. It’s raw and real—it’s a journey so many of us silently go through.” Check out the full music video below.

Inspired by dark fairy tales, she says, “The ‘hostage’ music video is like a visual echo of my inner turmoil. Waking up in this empty, enigmatic house, I’m lost in a loop of my own nightmares.”

Then, Lindemann further shares, “It’s a journey of frustration and isolation as I find myself trapped, trying to reach out to a world that just doesn’t respond. The video mirrors the song’s themes of feeling captive within your own mind, yearning for an escape. That Rapunzel moment? It’s a surreal, haunting representation of longing for a freedom that feels just out of reach.”

To celebrate her new song, Lindemann‘s boyfriend and NBA Utah Jazz player Jordan Clarkson got a gothic, #CakeTok-worthy dessert.

As of now, the “Knife Under My Pillow” artist has no tour dates planned for 2024. We are hopeful that dazzling shows are in the works for the new music in-store. While we wait for possible forthcoming news, it’s time to bask in the glow of Lindemann‘s December-released concert documentary from her first headlining run on the Suckerpunch World Tour.
