Even with powerhouse frontman Chester Bennington gone, it hasn’t stopped Linkin Park from releasing previously recorded tracks. “Friendly Fire” was originally a part of the acts “One More Light” sessions. The band posted a snippet of the song on their socials, with hints of their nu-metal flair blended with synth-pop.
“We’re falling apart for no reason/We’re pulling the trigger in a useless war/If we go back and go into the black/What are we fighting for?” The preview is on a simple green background with conveyor belt text, the title, and the year it was recorded. They announced on X/Twitter that it would be released on Friday, February 23. Additionally, the band shared an extended preview on their SoundCloud.
In 2020, producer and rapper Mike Shinoda explained during a Twitch stream about this unpublished track. “We mixed more than the finished album, and we mixed a couple of other songs just to see if one of them would make the cut.” Additionally, he says they hoped it could’ve been a B-side if it didn’t make it to the final LP recording.

Last year, they unleashed “Lost” to the world—a track from their Meteora era that hadn’t been published. It came from their 20th-anniversary special edition re-release. With new songs slowly seeping out from the band, it’s another way to honor Bennington’s legacy. They released One More Light Live two months before he passed away in 2017.
With a little taste over the last couple of years of what’s in the Linkin Park vault, fans ask: What else can we expect? Regardless, it’s undoubtedly solidified a connection to the icon status of Bennington in the alternative scene by his bandmates continuously carrying his torch to share with a new generation of listeners.
