The Queens of Metal aren’t stopping anytime soon. Kittie has released their latest single, “We Are Shadows,” via Sumerian Records. With heavy riffs, melodically strong vocals, plus a dash of dark realism in the lyrics, the four-piece act displays that they’re better than ever. The music video for the song is a modern gothic setting in a darkened church surrounded by candles while donned in their very best goth attire.

Without skipping a beat, the metal act flies seamlessly back into the scene. The new track incorporates a reinvigorated version of the metal genre. With a sliver of symphonic metal vocals manifesting in the chorus, mixed in with melodic screaming and singing, “We Are Shadows” reintroduces the female group to a new fanbase while showing love to their dedicated followers.

Partnered with deep lyrical messaging about division in the world and other problems everyone deals with, singer Morgan Lander says the song is a dose of reality. “‘We Are Shadows’ is about the uncertainty of a future that we can no longer control. We have come to a critical place in life, and in our world, and much like an eclipse overtaking the sun, we are losing the light,” she explains. “It is not a song of hope however, it’s a song of coming to terms with the damage we do and acceptance of our fate. We’ve let darkness take hold, and so we are resolved to fade in the night with it.”
