KiNG MALA has shared her newest video today for her single “sunny side up“. The witty and whimsical lyrics are in juxtaposition with the fierce demeanor and performance from MALA. The alt-pop star sits opposite of her partner, in a battleground brought to us in the form of a breakfast-filled food fight. Connected by a hefty chain at the ankles, the couple argue, scream, and fight in a room filled with white-washed walls and minimal decor. The video has the feel of a short-film. Coming in at a little over two minutes, the song is short and sweet. “sunny side up” arrives as the second single from KiNG MALA in 2023, following “dirty dishes“.
KiNG MALA shares on the new track: “‘sunny side up’ is an ode to breaking toxic cycles. My previous partner and I fought over everything towards the end of our relationship – Every other morning was an episode of burnt toast, or ‘too-sweet’ coffee, or ‘we’re out of eggs.’ Nothing was right and the resentment had built to such a level that our morning fights had become routine.”

She continues: “I want this song to feel like finally admitting a secret and feeling the weight lifting off your shoulders. It’s the first step in ending the cycles and moving on. The videos for this song and “dirty dishes” are the introduction to the world of my last relationship and this next project: the beginning and the end and everything in-between will be revealed with my EP coming this fall.”
