Following the release of the titular track on his birthday in February, jxdn has launched the lead single, “WHAT THE HELL,” pulled from his forthcoming album, WHEN THE MUSIC STOPS. The new record will be his sophomore release and arrive on June 28 via Travis Barker’s DTA Records.
“WHAT THE HELL” is a dreamy pop-punk anthem that hears jxdn questioning himself in a relationship, wondering “What the hell did I do now?” across the chorus. Written by Aldae (Justin Bieber, Carlie Hanson), Andrew Goldstein (blink-182, The Maine), jxdn, and Barker, the track is a departure from his debut album and invokes a Harry Styles meets Machine Gun Kelly vibe.
Of his forthcoming full-length, jxdn shares, “What do I hear when the music stops? I heard silence like I had never heard before. I heard an emptiness that overtook me.”
He continues, “I missed the music of my life, I missed the safety it gave me. I had lost my love for the feeling. I went to hell and back since my last album. And I questioned myself, I questioned my music, and I questioned life and its purpose. And through all that, I heard faint sounds ever so often that resembled a beautiful melody. They guided me through the silence back to the place I call home – the music. Keep listening, keep holding on to tomorrow. Especially when you don’t hear anything anymore. Especially when the music stops. This one’s for you. This one’s for us.”
In addition to songwriting credits, the album has been co-produced by Barker and Goldstein. Aside from the title track, the album also features jxdn’s previously released singles “Wet Dream (It’s You),” “It Must Suck To Know You,” and “Drugs.” Check out the full tracklisting for WHEN THE MUSIC STOPS below.
