It may only be August, but spooky season is in full swing with the release of the trailer for the upcoming HBO It prequel television series Welcome To Derry.
The upcoming series was first announced in March of 2022. The prequel is set to take place in the 60s, in the world of Stephen King’s novel It’ The show will expand what fans know about the town of Derry as seen in the 2017 version of It and the sequel It: Chapter 2. In case you need a refresher, the films followed the “Losers Club” and their unfortunate experiences with an evil shapeshifter.
The prequel is set to take place in the 1960s, 27 years before the happenings that took place in the first film. The series will reportedly share the origin story of Pennywise with Bill Skarsgård reprising his role as the murderous clown with an appetite for unassuming children.

The teaser doesn’t give away too much, but it leaves the viewer wanting more. Only a few seconds long, the video features kids screaming, covered in blood, and one young person with a sinister smile plastered on their face.
The series was developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, who worked on the films, respectively. Stephen King also previously expressed his happiness about the upcoming series. He shared, “I’m excited that the story of Derry, Maine’s most haunted city, is continuing, and I’m glad Andy Muschietti is going to be overseeing the frightening festivities, along with a brain trust including his talented sister, Barbara. Red balloons all around!”
An official release date has yet to be announced, but it is slated to air sometime in 2025. If the series is as terrifying as the trailer makes it seem, it’ll sure spook even the bravest viewer.
