Wake up, people, we’ve officially got new music from the one and only Head Automatica. After nearly two decades of radio silence, the band has returned with their first offering since their 2006 sophomore album Popaganda, “Bear The Cross.”

Having first blown up on Myspace, Head Automatica has officially entered their Instagram era, making a new account and posting their cover art to the surprise of myriad elder emos. In the comments, long-time fans dropped several comments reading “OMG,” and “Perfection!!!” as well as “Welcome back!”

Bear The Cross” sees the band reach outside of the iconic glamorous pop-rock sonics of their 2004 debut Decadence and add a bit of industrial, jazzy spice. It may sound like an odd genre combo, but it just works, effortlessly. Check out the new Head Automatica track below.

Vocalist of both Head Automatica and Glassjaw Daryl Palumbo notes, “To me, ‘Bear The Cross’ is both a logical and unexpected evolution of Head Automatica’s sound. The sounds and ideas are very familiar but age undeniably changes your personality, creative leanings and approach.”

He continues, “There is an urgency and boldness in what you feel empowered to produce after a certain point. ‘Bear The Cross,’ and our new material on the whole are a reflection of that while still constantly maintaining a body moving element.”

Prior to the surprise song drop, Head Automatica announced sets at upcoming festivals in the UK and shows in New York. Check out the full lineup below and secure tickets here. Fingers crossed there will be more dates and music to come.

Tour Dates:

  • May 25—Hatfield, UK Slam Dunk Festival
  • May 29—New York, NY Bowery Ballroom
  • May 31—Patchougue, NY 89 North
