Green Day has never been the type to hold back—and they’re certainly not starting now with the release of their deeply personal new single and accompanying video for “Dilemma.” The new release marks the third preview of the trio’s forthcoming 14th studio album, Saviors, set to arrive on January 19, 2024.
The unfiltered track opens with gentle guitar strums, setting the stage for frontman Billie Joe Armstrong‘s croons, “Welcome to my problems/It’s not an invitation/This is my dilemma/And it’s my obsession.” The song then explodes with full force, unleashing a powerhouse of electric guitar riffs and thunderous drums, amplifying Armstrong’s vocal prowess.

In sync with the escalating intensity of the music, the black and white visuals vividly capture the quintessential rock star night—complete with a slew of drinks at the bar, drugs in the bathroom, and mischievous antics abound. As the sonic narrative unfolds, the monochrome scenes gradually evolve into a spectrum of color, reflecting Armstrong’s recollection of the chaos he’s caused while under the influence.
“‘Dilemma’ was one of those songs that was kind of easy to write because it was so personal to me,” Armstrong explains. “We’ve seen so many of our peers struggle with addiction and mental illness. This song is all about the pain that comes from those experiences.”
Green Day‘s monumental global tour will kick off overseas on May 30, featuring support from Nothing But Thieves, The Hives, Donots, The Interrupters, and Maid Of Ace. The iconic rockers’ return to North America will be supported by The Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and The Linda Lindas.
