This weekend, Green Day played the greatest halftime show of the year, and no, it wasn’t at an American football game. The “Basket Case” artists headed to Hamilton, Ontario to play during the Canadian Football League (CFL) championship game, otherwise known as the Grey Cup.
As the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Montreal Alouettes took a quick break from the game, Green Day took to the stage to play hits new and old for the football fans. They kicked off their four-song set with new single “The American Dream Is Killing Me,” followed by “Basket Case,” “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams,” and the political classic “Holiday.” Check out the full live set below.
During their closing song, Billie Joe Armstrong even added a lyric just for the Canadians in the audience. “The representative from Hamilton now has the floor,” he said before launching into the “Holiday” breakdown.
If you’re curious about how the game turned out after Green Day‘s set, the Montreal Alouettes pulled off a 28-24 win with just mere seconds left on the clock.
For those who are eager to see Green Day live, your chance is coming soon. Following the release of their forthcoming album Saviors, due out January 19th, 2024, the band will head out on a major tour. It will kick off on May 30 overseas with support from Nothing But Thieves, The Hives, Donots, The Interrupters, and Maid Of Ace. As the iconic trio make their way back to North America, The Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and The Linda Lindas will join as support.
