Enter Shikari are just days away from releasing their new album a kiss for the whole world, a record that is shaping up to be one of their most thrilling to date. One such track that demonstrates that is the wonderful “Bloodshot”, a song all about not knowing where you stand in the ever more confusing world of social media.
Vocalist Rou Reynolds explains in more detail, stating:
“Bloodshot is about how hard it is to find truth and how easy it is to stop thinking for yourself and simply repeat your ‘team’s’ mantras. Every day, I seem to be asking myself ‘Is this article biased?’, ‘Is this claim true?’…’Am I being manipulated? Provoked? Radicalised by my own tribe?
“Everyone’s so fucking angry with everyone else and it’s exhausting. It seems like social media’s main purpose these days is to hypnotise us to hate.”
And the band have now revealed the video for the track, presented in the dimensions of 9:16, perfect for your phone screen. See what we are going with this?
Performing inside of a body of water, floating in the ether and unable to control which direction they move, it’s a visual equivalent of what it means to be inside of your devices. Echo chamber and endless ocean, all in the same space, stirring you into a trance-like state of numbness, does that feel familiar?
