Don Broco have shared a new version of their recent single “Birthday Party” featuring a plethora of their friends. The song itself is an oddball piece of UK rock, jangling and jittering with sporadic bass and panted vocals. And if you haven’t seen the video yet, you simply need to. Featuring nightmarish versions of British pop culture icons such as Mr Blobby, Wallace and Gromit and Teletubbies, it needs to be experienced to be believed. Such a song and concept is in line with the boundary-pushing that the band are used to and that energy transfers into everything else that they do. That’s how a remix like this comes about.
Taking the bare bones of the track, Don Broco have basically handed the reigns to the bands that they are currently touring America with. So that’s The Home Team, Ryan Oakes, Skyler Acord, and The Color 8. The result is a surrealist piece of community-driven electro-rock that has no border or boundary. Each guest brings their own flavor to the table and delivers it with gusto and passion. It takes the track to exciting new places, becoming something entirely new. It’s an incredible celebration of what it means to become friends for life while on tour. It also shows just how strong the current crop of artists cutting their teeth is.

Vocalist Rob Damiani previously had this to say about what the song means to him. It’s nice to know he now has friends to enjoy his birthday with!
“Birthdays can be the absolute worst. You get all hyped up for what you think is a guaranteed top day, but when that doesn’t work out, you can’t help but feel EXTRA bad. I don’t really like birthdays because of this, but one year tried throwing a last-min shindig, and in classic form, it was not well attended, haha. I can’t say I took it well, but my only option was having a party for one, and this song is the story of that night.”
