Currents are on one of the fiercest streaks of their career right now, all in the lead-up to the release of their new album The Death We Seek. And their latest single is set to extend that even longer.
It’s called “So Alone” and incorporates both sides of their sound to devastating effect. There’s the emotional longing and vulnerability in their melodies, tugging at the shirt with uncertainty and fear. Then there’s the bile-riddled and punishing heaviness, reaching new depths of desolation and dread. Together they make for a near-perfect modern metalcore song and a statement of even further intent from Currents.
Vocalist Brian Wille had this to say about it:
““So Alone” explores isolation, whether self-induced or through outside factors. It expresses the pain of not being able to relate to those we love or to even be in their presence, and bemoans that separation in whatever form it takes. It also touches on the cyclical nature of our ups and downs, in the sense that we can feel we’ve made the same choices that lead us to the same places over and over again, despite how much we wish to have a different outcome.”
Currents will be releasing The Death We Seek on May 5th via SharpTone Records.
