Bowling For Soup and Patent Pending have always had a close relationship, even culminating in PP guitarist Rob Felicetti joining BFS back in 2021 as bassist following the departure of Erik Chandler. But the relationship even extends to paying homage to each other’s songs, with Bowling For Soup recently releasing a cover of “Hey Mario”, Patent Pending’s tribute to everybody’s favourite Italian plumber.

And they have just released a video for it, coinciding perfectly with the release of the brand new Super Mario Bros. Movie. An 8-bit animation masterpiece, it shows the band taking Mario through all of his favourite things in a bid to help him get over his breakup with Princess Peach. Vocalist Jaret Reddick had this to say about how the cover came about:

It seemed like a no-brainer to do a BFS version of this awesome song around the time Mario was fresh in everyone’s head again!

The song appears on the band’s new covers album, Don’t Mind If We Do, which is out everywhere now. It brings together a whole host of covers the band have done over the past couple of years, alongside a couple of fresh ones. One of those is Miley Cyrus‘ “Flowers”, which sounds a lot like this:
