blink-182 has been dropping breadcrumbs all month long for fans eagerly awaiting the release of their full album ONE MORE TIME… arriving on October 20. Today, they shared “YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’VE GOT” from the 17-song tracklist.
Preceded by the release of their official cover art, “FELL IN LOVE,” “DANCE WITH ME,” “ONE MORE TIME,” and “MORE THAN YOU KNOW,” this new track highlights the melancholy pop-punk that made fans fall in love with blink over the years. “You don’t know what you’ve got/You don’t know what you’ve got, till it’s almost gone,” sings Tom DeLonge on the chorus. In fact, at the 1:11:50 mark, Lowe mentions a lyric from “YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’VE GOT,” where Mark Hoppus sings about his time having cancer treatments, “The poison skin you can’t touch/Go on without me, my love.”
Hoppus said, “It’s gnarly. There was a point when the chemicals that they were putting into me [during treatment] were so toxic that the nurses had to completely gown up—total gowns, heavy gloves, face shield.” Thinking about moments like this really helped the vocalist contextualize how lucky he is to be living his dream and not fall back into the “bullshit of everyday life” following recovery.
