Following her debut Coachella performance, alt-pop starlet Ashnikko (she/they) has launched her latest effort “WEEDKILLER.” Through the release and its accompanying visual, Ashnikko takes us one step deeper into the dystopian universe that she’s created across her forthcoming, debut album, WEEDKILLER. Ashnikko’s debut full-length is available to preorder here.

“WEEDKILLER” is a sonic journey defined by a variety of genres and soundscapes, showcasing Ashnikko’s versatility and unique style. The new track effortlessly blends elements from punk rock, pop, and electronic music, creating a dynamic, energetic, and catchy experience.

From the jump, the track’s heavy use of electronic elements is utilized to create a futuristic and otherworldly feel, while the beats are hard-hitting and serve as the backbone of the release. Ashnikko‘s vocals are a standout feature, as she effortlessly switches between singing and rapping. Her voice is powerful and commanding, with a hint of aggression that perfectly matches the intense instrumentation.

One of the most distinctive features of “WEEDKILLER” is the use of sound effects as well as distorted and manipulated vocal effects. These elements add to the chaotic and unpredictable nature of the song and drive the post-apocalyptic inspiration behind the track.

“This is the song that spawned the whole album,” Ashnikko explains. “It’s the climax of the record, the epic fight scene in the wasteland. Swords drawn, roots deep into the ground, I have come here to photosynthesize and eliminate the weedkillers. It is a violent fantastical storytelling set in my realm.”

As the video draws to a close, Ashnikko emerges triumphant from her battle, drenched in a viscous, black liquid resembling blood. Experience the full intensity of “WEEDKILLER” below.
