joan — “alibi”
Following the release of singles, “magic,” “body language,” and beyond, indie-pop duo joan has returned with their ethereal, dreamy song, “alibi.” This undeniable bop is riddled with heartbreak and delectable synthy sonics, and also comes with a black and white music video, which was actually shot in an interrogation room. They say, “We wrote ‘alibi’ in the dingy basement of some co-write that we did a while back. It was dark, and I swear there was only one light in the whole room. The person we were writing with for something else ended up having to leave for some reason, so we just started writing and ended up with ‘alibi.’ The room felt like an interrogation room, so we kind of used that theme to start something, and it just stuck. We ended up with an honestly beautiful song about heartbreak.”
Plus, that’s not all. joan also announced that they have a forthcoming LP due out September 25—this won’t last forever—set to be a 13-track indie masterpiece via Photo Finish Records. “It’s about actually looking up in your life and realizing that nothing lasts forever. So breathe and take in the moment. Whether good or bad, you gotta know that it won’t last,” the band says. —Maria Serra
Erra — “Gore Of Being”
Ahead of their tour with Architects, Erra are giving fans one hell of a bouncy ripper. Akin to their latest album, Cure, this track further cements Jesse Cash and JT Cavey as one of the best vocal duos in metalcore. One of Cash’s finest choruses in their entire catalogue, combined with JT’s brooding rawness and intense screaming over a ripping instrumental that will have listeners headbanging and begging for more new music. The good news is they’ll only have to wait another week as another new single, “Echo Sonata,” drops next Friday. —Patrick Walford
Ice Nine Kills — “The Great Unknown
The Matrix-inspired track will surely have rock and metal fans worldwide going down the rabbit hole! A textbook track for the horrorcore kings, from a soaring chorus that will have fans singing it back for years to come to tasty riffage and an all-time one liner of “let’s see you dodge this” before the breakdown, this is Ice Nine Kills at their finest. —Patrick Walford
Drop Dead, Gorgeous — “Six Feet”
Out of absolutely nowhere, Drop Dead, Gorgeous has dropped their first new music in 16 years with “Six Feet.” Picking up right back up where they left off as if no time has passed, this is the kind of track DDG fans have been dreaming of but never thought would happen again. Catchy melodic choruses and vocal hooks, headbanging riffs, and a sick breakdown to top it all off, Myspace post-hardcore is fucking BACK! —Patrick Walford
Dreamwake — “Oasis”
The third single off their upcoming sophomore album, The Lost Years, due August 8, the CT saxophone and synth wave-infused metalcore quartet gives listeners their heaviest offering on the new single. The simultaneous melodic guitar noodling and crushing 8-string riffs work hand in hand to bring fans one of the most fun listens in heavy music so far this year. This track is a shining example that sax solos into and over breakdowns are elite. —Patrick Walford
End It — “Life Sublime”
If you’ve been following the rise of Baltimore hardcore outfit End It, you’re in for a treat. The band is set to release their debut LP, Wrong Side Of Heaven, on August 29 via Flatspot Records, which is set to bring “awareness of the change that’s coming to Americans, personal growth, and maintaining the ethics and integrity of hardcore,” they say. But first, the quartet has shared their new single and music video for “Life Sublime,” featuring a video game-themed music video. As expected, your face will melt off when you crank this one up. High-energy and high-octane, End It is just beginning their reign of the genre. You can soon catch them on the road with Superheaven and even blink-182. Grab your tickets here. —Maria Serra
