Teaming up with “Weird Al” Yankovic, the group recently dropped “Yo Me Estreso.” The track is the latest single from their upcoming LP No Obligation. With “Weird Al” serving up the accordion backtrack, the group took influence from other Mexican styles of music and added their twist to the genres. “‘Yo Me Estreso’ is a song about always being stressed,” Bela Salazar says. “Always being anxious and thinking that people are mad at you when they really aren’t. It was inspired by… Read more »

Ben Folds Salutes Elliott Smith, Hosts Weird Al On New LP

BEVERLY HILLS, California – If only iTunes charts meant as much as Billboard charts. “I’d be on the front of People magazine every week,” Ben Folds joked. “I have a real disproportionate Internet fanbase. On iTunes, it’s me and the Boss.” In “the real world,” a.k.a. record stores, though, Folds has pretty much tossed in the towel. “You don’t have to walk in the mall for very long to realize I’m not really in that world,” Folds said during a promotional trip to Los Angeles last week that included, of all things, an in-store performance at Virgin Records. “The misconception… Read more »

Eminem Disses Weird Al

The only person who gets to poke fun at Eminem is…himself? That’s the word from Weird Al Yankovic who, despite gaining permission from the rap superstar to parody his hit “Lose Yourself” in a tune called “Couch Potato,” couldn’t convince his Em-inence to let Yankovic do the same in a music video. One would think the hip-hopster would stand up and oblige a comedian who’s made a career out of satirizing the likes of Michael Jackson (“Eat It,” “I’m Fat,”), Madonna (“Like a Surgeon”), Nirvana (“Smells Like Nirvana”) and Coolio (“Amish Paradise”), but the answer was an unequivocal no. While… Read more »

Beyonce Knowles may be “Crazy in Love,” but she kept her cool Sunday at one of the more sober Grammy Awards shows in memory. Mariah vs. Eminem

Mariah Carey’s unlikely to give Eminem a charm bracelet, much less extend an olive branch. The pissed-off pop songstress, who’s relaxing in the Caribbean before setting sail on a six-month world tour in support of her new album, Charmbracelet, had some pointed words for the rap superstar after hearing reports that Em threatened to include samples of several rambling voicemail messages she left him in an upcoming tune. “I don’t know what the hell he’s doing,” Carey grouses in the New York Daily News on Thursday. “It’s a little excessive. Doesn’t it seem a little bit girly? Like we’re in… Read more »
