Sugar Ray is back in the studio working on what will become the band’s fifth album for Atlantic Records. Frontman Mark McGrath is pleased with the progress and the prospects of some potential developments, from working with the group’s original producer to hooking up with one of the hottest production teams in music right now: McGrath said, “It’s coming along, man. Modern rock outfits Sugar Ray, Uncle Kracker, and pop artist Willa Ford have lent their fame to help promote the Six Flags theme parks. The artists will appear in a series of television advertisements hyping the parks, each performing their own songs. For its spot, Sugar Ray performs “Fly,” while Kracker and Ford offer new versions of their songs-“Keep It Coming” and “I Wanna Be Bad,” respectively-with lyrics altered to better support the advertising campaign. “The song fit,” Kracker says. “It’s an uptempo song and a feel-good song and it goes along with the feel-good Six Flags theme park.” The… Read more »
California pop/rock outfit Sugar Ray is hitting a host of small U.S. college campuses on its spring tour, which will kick off with a Feb. 15-17 stand at Caesars Tahoe casino in Lake Tahoe, Nev. The jaunt comes in support of the group’s self-titled Lava/Atlantic album, which debuted at No. 6 on The Billboard 200 in June 2001. The single “When It’s Over” is No. 20 on Billboard’s Adult Top 40 chart this week.
