Building anticipation for his eagerly-awaited debut album, Games We Play presents a tantalizing preview of the record with “Petty Enemy.” Serving as the ultimate teaser before the much-awaited release of Life’s Going Great, slated to drop via Fueled By Ramen and Pete Wentz‘s DCD2 Records on March 1, “Petty Enemy” is a deliciously spiteful track. Emmyn Calleiro, the mastermind behind the project, showcases his one-man powerhouse prowess, delivering infectious venom through a captivating array of pop-punk-fueled lines. Drawing inspiration from a decade-long friendship tarnished by his best friend’s betrayal, as described by Calleiro as “bad, like very bad,” “Petty Enemy”… Read more »
Spite have returned with a new piece of hate-filled heaviness in the form of “Thank You, Again” featuring Whitechapel’s Phil Bozeman.

WESTLAND, Mich. – Since forming less than two years ago, working to solidify a stable lineup, releasing a debut EP on I Surrender records, gracing the pages of Alternative Press magazine and most recently, losing a singer, Detroit-based pop-punk outfit Take Notice has gone through a lot. Despite it all, the band maintains a positive outlook on the future.
Last month the music industry and Apple, long uneasy partners, seemed a picture of harmony when they agreed on new terms for pricing on iTunes, Apple’s online music store. Behind the scenes, however, the relationship remains as tense and antagonistic as ever. The announcement on Jan. 6 seemed to signal a rapprochement between the music industry and its biggest distributor: record companies gave up their demand for copyright protection (called digital rights management) and Apple allowed flexible pricing, so the labels could charge more for new or popular tracks. But according to one music industry executive involved in the negotiations,… Read more »
Overall demand for music among U.S. internet users fell 2% in Q3 of 2008 according to a new NPD survey which included purchased CDs and downloads, P2P sites, and borrowing music to rip. It’s not clear if the numbers are just a blip or within some margin or error, but they certainly can’t be spun as good news for a beleagured music industry. Growth in track sales and the number of new downloaders did, however, offer a ray of hope along with music discovery via video games. The proportion of U.S. Internet users, age 13 and older, purchasing a CD… Read more »
High-priced reunion tours by the Police, Van Halen and Genesis failed to prevent the North American concert industry from posting its worst year since 2004, according to a music industry trade publication. The previous low was $951.1 million in 2004, when Prince and Madonna topped the box office, it said. The comeback tour by Anglo-American rock trio the Police was the top draw this year with ticket sales of $131.9 million, followed… Read more »
Executive said on Monday the music company’s business was poised to rebound as it tapped new revenue streams to counter the decline in sales of traditional CDs. Warner Music, the only publicly listed major music company in the United States, has seen its share price decline as CD sales have fallen. People are increasingly buying music through online downloads rather than physical CDs and records. The company’s third-quarter earnings report, for the three months to June 30, showed a 2 percent revenue decline as growth in digital revenue failed to make up for declining CD sales. To counter this, the… Read more »
Los Angeles – Somehow Outkast have managed to get some work done in between collecting all their trophies. The hip-hop duo – who were big winners at the recent MTV Europe Awards, American Music Awards and World Music Awards, among others – have nearly completed two different records and have just finished shooting their long-awaited HBO movie. While the vote count in Ohio plays out, there is one fact that is not in dispute. The same percentage of eligible voters between 18-29 showed up to the polls yesterday as they did in the 2000 Presidential election. Despite the fact that over $40 million was spent by the New Voters Project, Rock the Vote, MTV Choose or Lose, Declare Yourself, Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, and Smack Down Your Vote, as well as the Democratic and Republican National Committee, the percentage of eligible voters between 18-29 in yesterday’s election remained at 17%. However, the campaigns did increase the number… Read more »
