Say Anything has announced a full US headline tour kicking off next year to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of their debut full length album, …Is A Real Boy. A record that boasted indie hits like “Alive With The Glory Of Love,” “Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too,” and “Every Man Has A Molly,” it enhanced expectations from your typical rock band in the early 2000’s. They set a new bar that has rarely been met by other acts. Say Anything stuck out like a sore thumb in the scene with their inception in a beautifully unique and transparently broken… Read more »
When We Were Young Fest was packed with incredible acts this year, both legendary and brand new. However, there was one band that I was most excited to see, hands down. Say Anything has been a staple band in my life since I was 15 years old. I met my now wife when I was a sophomore in High School. Say Anything was one of the first things we bonded over. As two queer kids growing up in the South, their song “A Walk Through Hell” was an unconventional, yet perfect description our our love and perseverance for each other.… Read more »
Earlier this year we were blessed with the reunion of Say Anything after a four year hiatus. After gifting us with two new singles, “Psyche!” and “Are You (In) There?” over the summer, we just keep getting good news. Today, the band has released another new song, “Carrie & Lowell & Cody (Pendent)” and shared the news of their eighth studio album …Is Committed. Although we don’t have an official release date yet, we have a lot of great information regarding the new record! They have reunited with producer, Brad Wood, who worked with the band on their sophomore album… Read more »
One of the most unique bands of our generation, Say Anything is back with another brand new single, “Are You (In) There?” today. The return of this band is like running into an old friend after years apart, and it feeling like a single day hasn’t gone by. It is almost like they never left, but came back right at a time when we need them the most. This new song follows “Psyche!” that dropped earlier this summer, and we are getting everything that we have ever loved about Say Anything with a fresh and modern spin. Frontman and mastermind… Read more »
Hardcore fans of Say Anything know that before their highly-acclaimed debut album …Is A Real Boy came out in 2005, the band recorded a massive amount of demos and unreleased music. These songs were spread across three projects from the band, Baseball, Junior Varsity EP, and Menorah/Mejora. Before 2013 you couldn’t not find these releases anywhere. Unless, of course, you were one of the lucky ones who had the opportunity to pick up a copy from the band in their early days. Perhaps in a basement, bar, or someone’s living room house show. In 2013, Say Anything released a compilation… Read more »
Beloved emo rock icons Say Anything emerged from hiatus last Friday for their first show in nearly five years. Frontman Max Bemis and the refreshed lineup dug in for a sold-out, four night run at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom with a line of fans camped out in the rain on Delancey Street waiting for doors to open. Anticipation was high, driven by the release of “Psyche!” earlier in the day, the band’s first new music since their no longer 2019 farewell album, Oliver Appropriate. Say Anything has always featured a revolving door of musicians surrounding founding members Max Bemis… Read more »
Say Anything are back together and have released a brand new track, “Psyche!” Today. They are a band that have always done things differently than everyone else. They stuck out like a sore thumb in the scene since their inception in a beautifully unique and transparently broken way. Max Bemis is a genius to say the least and you won’t find another project quite like his. Hell, their first full-length album, …Is A Real Boy, was intended to be a performative musical that transformed into a two-part melodic odyssey. With spoken word interludes, triumphant and drastic sonic changes within each… Read more »
This post tugs at my heart-strings and is going to be hard to write. A band that many of us grew up with, have shared tears of joy and pain, danced with and screamed our lungs out to, Say Anything – is saying good-bye. At least, for now. In a lengthy but in-depth letter on the Say Anything website, lead singer Max Bemis (and one of my favorite humans I’ve ever had the pleasure to interact with and just speak to… the dude is a genius and f’n rules) said that “this era” of Say Anything is over. “Our plans… Read more »
