Entertainment giant Live Nation plans to acquire Ticketmaster


The world’s largest  concert promoter  Live Nation Inc  plans to buy  Ticketmaster  Entertainment Inc for about $400 million in stock in a bid to create a company with dominant holdings inconcert promotion  and ticket sales. Wal-Mart stirs CD pricing pot with multi-tiered plan


The major music companies have been resistant to lowering their price on CDs, but now they may be dragged to that point: Wal-Mart, the largest retailer of music with an estimated 22 percent market share, has proposed a five-tiered pricing scheme that would allow the discounter to sell albums at even lower prices and require the labels to bear more of the costs. Sony BMG Plans to Drop DRM


In a move that would mark the end of a digital music era, Sony BMG Music Entertainment is finalizing plans to sell songs without the copyright protection software that has long restricted the use of music downloaded from the Internet, BusinessWeek.com has learned. Smashing Pumpkins plan residencies


The Smashing Pumpkins announced Monday they will give nine concerts in Asheville and eight in San Francisco this summer in the band’s first residencies in more than a decade. The band will perform at the Orange Peel in Asheville on dates from June 23 to July 5, and at the historic Fillmore in San Francisco on dates from July 22 to August 1.
