Bright Eyes Release “Rainbow Overpass,” Announce Massive Tour

On the brink of the release of their upcoming album Five Dice, All Threes, Bright Eyes have dropped their latest single from the full-length “Rainbow Overpass” featuring Alex Orange Drink of The So So Glos. Known to go big, it makes sense for the band to also announce an extensive North American Tour. The track follows their June release of “Bells And Whistles.” Where that song utilized easy-going instrumentations, “Rainbow Overpass” features gritty hits and fast-moving rhythms. Though they’ve collaborated before, vocalist Conor Oberst says this is the first time Alex has sung on one of their tracks.  “He’s kinda… Read more »

Bright Eyes Announces 10th LP ‘Five Dice, All Threes,’ Ft. Matt Berninger & More

Today, Bright Eyes announced their forthcoming new LP, sharing its first single, “Bells And Whistles,” a song about the things we tend to take for granted that ultimately shape our lives. From the jump, the track is brought to life with the breath of a vibrant whistle that’s sure to be stuck in your head for the next 5-7 business days. It continues with a happy-go-lucky tune that juxtaposes the vocal fry and lyrical cynicism laid over it quite perfectly. The Five Dice, All Threes LP will feature 13 songs, with Cat Power, Alex Orange Drink, and Matt Berninger of… Read more »

Bright Eyes frontman taking care of business

Conor Oberst sits in a dive bar, pulling on Winston Lights and throwing back intermittent gulps from a beer bottle. This isn’t the downtown New York- or Los Angeles-variety “dive” with the beautiful people and the perfectly curated juke box. This is the suburban Omaha sort, where a handful of pear-shaped, geriatric regulars sit drinking, solo, at two in the afternoon, mumbling conversations to themselves. The juke box plays only AC/DC. Oberst, better-known as Bright Eyes, is here — away from his handlers, bandmates and friends that dot the frigid Omaha landscape — to confront the perception, more or less,… Read more »

Bright Eyes Slim Down With Single LP

After all the work entailed by the simultaneous release of the analog-sounding I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning and the electronica-tinged Digital Ash in a Digital Urn a little more than two years ago, Bright Eyes mastermind Conor Oberst says he wised up. “I think we had enough of the double record last time,” he laughed. “It was pretty hectic, and the tour that followed, to promote both albums, ended up being a lot on us. We’re trying to be a little smarter this time around. The idea was definitely to make one strong album that made sense.” That album, Cassadaga,… Read more »

Bright Eyes Feel Faint – Review

Touring behind Digital Ash In A Digital Urn, the second half of Conor Oberst ‘s recent double disc release, the king of heartache tried with all his might to outplay his opening band and uphold his recent large-scale reputation. However, he was no match for indie dance rock openers The Faint. Amidst the green and purple lights, The Faint hit the stage and immediately threw the crowd into a frenzy via a few bars of violin. With bassist Joel Petersen flinging his arms to the beat and vocalist Todd Fink continuously slamming his head into the microphone, the audience was… Read more »
