Maggie Lindemann Unveils Dark “hostage” Music Video

Maggie Lindemann is beginning 2024 with a bang on her new track and accompanying “hostage” music video. Preceded by 2022’s debut LP SUCKERPUNCH and one-off 2023 single “deprecating” with Siiickbrain, a new era is emerging featuring the Dallas singer’s dark and twisted lyrics and imagery. Reminiscent of Flyleaf and Evanescene instrumental tones, Lindemann breathily and mournfully sings, “These thoughts fill my mind/Bring me down one more time/In my head and it drives me crazy/I’m hostage, baby.” Lindemann shares, “‘hostage,’ for me, is like peering through a window into my own mind. It’s about being caught in this strange limbo where… Read more »

Music Industry Unveils Net Sales Tracking Tag

A music industry trade body launched Monday electronic identity tags to keep tabs on Internet music sales in a bid to compensate musicians and song writers as more of their works become available online. The Global Release Indentifier, or GRid, is a code akin to the Universal Product Code (UPC) bar code found on a CD or cassette tape in stores. The aim is to track each time a record label, online retailer or distributor such as Microsoft’s MSN or Italian Internet service provider Tiscali sells a song in the form of a Web stream or download. Such tracking initiatives… Read more »

Frustrated by the continuing presence of free music on the Internet, the recording industry asked for Congress’ blessing on Thursday to gum up the online networks they blame for slowing their sales. Congress is considering expanded legal protection for record labels who resort to sabotage in their ongoing battle with “peer to peer” networks that allow users to freely trade music, movies and other copyrighted material. The recording industry offered a glimpse into its tactics, which include blocking transfers and flooding the network with dummy songs, and promised a House of Representatives subcommittee that they would not disrupt the Internet… Read more »

Some attendee accounts from these fests have stirred up major controversy, which forces the question, “Are festivals getting worse?” For starters, Coachella opened their weekends with cars stuck in traffic for 12+ hours, as reported by ABC7 Chicago. “I’ve seen people pass out from heat exhaustion,” one interviewee said.
